CEROC WELLINGTON NEWSLETTER 24th JANUARY 2012
Hi everyone!
It was great to see so many of you at classes last week and this week we are back on Wednesday and Thursday nights of course! Were sure that there are heaps of you with New Years resolutions to do with getting fit, improving your dancing and generally working off the excesses of the Xmas season so we are looking forward to seeing you back at Ceroc.
We have lots of new dancers starting at the moment - yippee! You have obviously spread the good word about Ceroc during your holidays. Thanks! Do tell your friends it is a great time to start Ceroc with lots of other beginners. Help yourself to our business cards at the front desk, pop a few in your wallet to give out next time you are telling someone about the fun you have at Ceroc. And please ask the beginners for a dance :) Encourage them to have fun but don't correct them. It will really make their night.
1. This week
a) All classes run as normal this week!
On Wednesday it will be great to start up our West Coast Swing classes again with Anita at the helm. WCS Beginners is at 7pm and WCS Intermediate is at 8pm.
The Ceroc Beginners class will be taught by Cameron and Rewa and Adam and Michelle will be teaching both the Ceroc Intermediate class at 8pm and the Ceroc Intermediate Plus class at 7pm.
On Thursday Adam and Michelle will be teaching the Beginners class and we have Rachael and Kyle teaching Intermediate, Snaiet and Alexei teaching Intermediate Plus and Tai and Michelle teaching Advanced.
Heres a message from Tai about the class this week: Im looking forward to a fun and exciting new year so Id like to start off the year that way. Youll get to learn three moves while dancing to fun music. Theyll be floor moves and the music will be a bit faster creating a bit of cardio burn (useful for removing my holiday excesses). So I look forward to seeing you there to bring in the new Ceroc year with a laugh!
b) Beginners Team starts this Wednesday
Recently started Ceroc and are keen to learn fast and have fun? We have just the thing for you! A Ceroc competition is coming up on 17 March in Lower Hutt (see details below) and we are keen to enter a beginners team. You need to have only done beginners classes so far and we will teach you an easy and awesome routine that will be fun to learn and to perform! Even if you have only attended 1 Ceroc night you will be able to do this. You do not have to compete at the end, although it would be useful to us if you can let us know your intentions at the beginning. You can either learn the routine with a partner or we will pair you up with someone for the performance so you can come along on your own or with a partner.
The core moves of the routine will be taught in the Beginners class on Wednesdays at 7pm, so please make sure you are there on time to join in. We will be teaching the routine on Wednesdays at 9:15-9:45 and it is included in your normal entry fee for the evening. We will start the routine this Wednesday and will be teaching it for the following 7 weeks. You do not have to come to every week but the more you come to, the easier you will find it!
Adam and Rewa will show us the whole routine straight after the beginners class on Wednesday so everyone can be inspired to join in! Routines are great for meeting people and a sure fire way of advancing your Ceroc technique so why not give it a go! If you are interested in joining in, or if you have any queries before Wednesday, please call Adam on 021 205 1202 between 9.30am and 6pm.
c) Treat Me offer
We have another offer on the one-day internet deal Treat Me next Sunday and Monday, so this is a good opportunity to let your friends know. The offer is available to people who are new to Ceroc only so we are looking forward to having lots of new people joining us over the next 3 months.
And as a special offer to our existing dancers, we also have a special offer on this week on our concession cards. The 10-trip concession card will be on sale for $120 (normally $130) and the 40-trip concession card will be on sale for $430 (normally $440). This offer will be available until Sunday 29/1. You can purchase the concession cards at classes on Wednesday and Thursday or you can buy them on our website http://www.cerocwellington.com/#!prices--and--discounts

This is a great workshop for all new-comers and anyone who has been learning Ceroc for up to 3 months. You will learn 10 of the 20 beginners moves and learn how to freestyle them with confidence. You can attend this workshop whether or not you have attended the Beginners 2 workshop. An essential workshop for everyone who wants to accelerate their learning. New dancers to Ceroc are welcome.
You will be taught by Adam who is one of the most internationally recognised teachers within Ceroc NZ. You will learn techniques that cannot be taught in a class situation whilst receiving a lot of one-on-one attention. Working in a small group, you will quickly learn all the skills required to enjoy your Ceroc dancing to the max!
Places are $30 per person or $50 for a couple booking together. For more information and to download the booking form, please click here.
c) Musicality Workshop
Sunday 12 February WPC, 25 Vivian St, Wellington 3pm- 5pm
Dancing is not just about performing moves, it is about moving to the music in a way that follows all the highs, lows, little twiddly bits and dramatic changes. We teach you how to dance to different types of music including fast and slow for both Chart and Latin rhythms, being the main genres danced at Ceroc. You will learn to adapt your moves and style to look great with the different types.
Learn how to change the pace of your dancing throughout a piece of music and recognise breaks and accents. You will suddenly make all the HITS every time!!
This workshop is guaranteed to get you thinking about your own style of dancing and will help you to experiment with your moves. You should find that you will become a smoother dancer which will make your Ceroc even more enjoyable.
The workshop will be taught by Adam who is regarded as one of the best teachers of musicality. Adam has taught music interpretation all over the UK, in Europe, Australia and NZ over the past 20 years. The workshop is easy to follow and very user friendly. It is appropriate for intermediate and advanced dancers who can freestyle competently and wish to add more style & pizzaz to their freestyle dancing.
Places are $30 per person or $50 for a couple booking together. For more information and to download the booking form, please click here.
d) Karori Karnival promotional dancing
Sunday 19 February Ben Burn Park, Campbell St, Karori 1pm
We have a great opportunity coming up to show Ceroc and West Coast Swing to the public. We will be dancing at the Karnival from 1pm for about 20 minutes and it would be great if as many of you as possible could come along to dance with us and/or hand out flyers to the public. We will start off with the WCS routine that some of us learnt last year and then have a couple of Ceroc freestyle tracks. So it would be great to see lots of you there to join in! You dont have to be the worlds best dancer, showing the audience our enthusiasm and how much fun dancing can be is much more important. Come on your own or with a partner. Its great fun to get involved with community events, show off our dancing to an appreciative audience and promote the classes at the same time! Please let us know if you will be able to join us.

Week Nine Highlight - Classical Freestyle Events
This week we are checking out the five categories in the Classical Freestyle Events section. Freestyle dancing is what Ceroc is all about and there are loads of categories you can enter to freestyle the night away. There is a classical category for every level of dancer: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced B, Advanced A and Advanced Open. Freestyle dancing means exactly that, no routines, no set piece of music. You just need to organise yourself a partner of the same dance level as you (they can be from any Ceroc branch), then get out on that dance floor and enjoy yourself ... dont forget to breathe!
